"You will take turns with your partner casting the spell on the glass. If everything goes according to plan, the glass will turn into a hat."
Aaron stared at his nerdchild partner, who was casting first. This was one of the nerds he had been paired with before, in Charms - last time, Aaron had barely saved Professor Flitwick from being turned into a banana. And this time, they were working with a glass object... highly reflective. If this boy said the spell incorrectly...
Well, things could go very, very wrong.
"Remember," Aaron murmured to the nerdchild, "It's 'Glaso trans Hattus'. That's all you have to say."
"Yeah, yeah, I know. 'Glaze-o trains nattus'."
"...No, 'Glaso trans Hattus'."
"That's what I said!"
...Things were definitely going to go very, very, very wrong.

Ella flounced into the transfiguration room the next morning about fifteen minutes early, grinning with her books in her arms. She set them on a desk and sat down, awaiting for more students to arrive.
-x-
Luckily, her wait wasn't long and she was soon set next to a pretty good student named Jeff. She smiled at him but wasn't really paying attention to him, because she was, as suspected, staring across the room at a certain black-haired male.
Of course, when Professor McGonigal began to talk, she turned her attention from him, tapping her wand absentmindedly against with her fingers. She turned to the kid sitting next to her, "Okay James-"
"It's Jeff."
"Fine, Jebb, you go first!" Ella grinned.
"Jeff," the boy muttered under his breath, picking up his wand.
Ella scowled at him, as she's heard his not-so-quiet-mutter. "Like it matters," she huffed, leaning back in her chair and folding her arms, "Just cast the spell already."

"Wands at the ready!" Professor McGonagall ordered from the head of the class.
The nerdchild lifted his wand, ignoring Aaron's eyes, which followed it up, filled with dread. He could almost feel that something terrible was going to happen.
Liora, who was taking dove form for the first time today, was perched on his shoulder, eyes narrowed at the nerd. Aaron, be careful - you should probably stay -
"Aaaand... cast the spell!"
- away!
"Glaso trans cattus!" cried the nerd. All at once, a beam of light exploded from his wand, bounced off the glass, and hit Aaron squarely in the chest, hurling him over backwards.
The transformation was done before he hit the floor - on all fours.
...Cats always land on their feet.

At her call, the kid 'with the name that didn't really matter but started with J',' lifted his wand and flicked it at the glass. Immediately, it turned into a cowboy hat, almost perfect, but with a few stitches around the edges fraying.
Ella had to bite her lip to keep from laughing at the very unstylish hat. Though what stylish was in her book differed greatly from other peoples'.
Looking around she saw several people putting their's on. Some kid had a sombrero, one had a baseball cap, and another kid had a weird normalish hat made completely of glass. it reminded her of that muggle story about the glass shoe. Some girls' glass had just shattered into hundreds of pieces, of which she was very lucky to have had none hit her.
"Well, I suppose you did well, Joe." Ella remarked, pointing at his completed hat, "Better than some people at least!"
The boy growled. "It's Jeff," he reminded her yet again.

"Hey, my glass didn't change!" whined the nerd, "And where's Aaron?"
Completely overlooking the stunned animal standing on the floor, the nerd called, "PROFESSOR MCGONAGALL! AARON'S CUTTING CLAAAASS!"
The Professor stayed at the front of the room, a puzzled expression on her face. "Wasn't he just there a second ago?"
"Yeah! I think he ran out or something!"
"Then go look for him!"
"Yes ma'am!"
And the nerd bolted out of the classroom, foot crushing centimeters away from the Aaron-cat, who mewled with surprise and dove under the table.
Drat. Drat. Drat. thought Aaron, looking himself over. He was covered in jet-black fur, the exact shade of his human hair - except for his tail, which was decorated with white stripes leading to the tip. There was also a tiny white spot on his chest. He knew he was a cat, and a very small one at that, but he couldn't get a very good look unless he had a mirror -
The glass.
A little unsteady on his four legs, he walked around in circles until he was sure he could do this. Then he took a flying leap onto the chair, stopping and panting once on top. He wanted to just curl up into a ball and stay there - but he would never be human again that way!
So he took another deep breath and jumped onto the table, where his wand lay discarded - the nerd hadn't even seen it. He prodded it with a paw drearily, then turned to the glass and took a good look at what the spell had done to him.
First things he saw were his eyes. They were the exact same gray-blue as before, but with the slit-pupils that all cats have. He messed with the fur on his right foreleg - it completely covered all scars, which were so small they were hardly visible without a magnifying glass anyway. He was right about his fur - all black besides the white spot and the stripes on his tail. Tail. Yes, it was pretty long... and very thin, like an electrical cord or something.
He lashed it back and forth with unease as he eyed his whiskers and pinkish nose. And then he realized that cats were less... modest? About certain parts of their bodies - and lowered his tail, deciding to keep at least the base down at all times so as to not be completely mortified.
With the inspection done, he looked back at his wand, wondering if he might be able to cast a spell to turn himself back on his own. But, alas, small size + no opposable thumbs = no casting spells. He would have to get someone else to do it.
But why would anyone try to change an ordinary cat into a human?
Someone had to recognize him. His tail looked suspiciously like his scarf... and his eyes were the same color... but...
With a sinking feeling, he realized no one even knew him. The only people he was pretty sure knew him were... Violet, who he'd met in the forest ( and had probably forgotten about him by then ), Aisu, who he'd met at the meeting ( who had also probably forgotten about him ), Liam, who he'd been friends with all year ( and... well, alright, he probably hadn't forgotten him, but still ), and... Ella.
Ella.
If she found him, there was no way he'd ever get turned back. She'd probably say he looks just like Aaron and adopt him or something. He could see her across the room - busy casting her spell. He had to hide!
He jumped onto the chair, then onto the floor, landing on his front paws with his back following each time. Cats really did have great balance...
Once he was on the floor, he lay down, curling his tail around him and putting his head in his paws.
Things had gone terribly wrong.

Finally, it was Ella's turn to make the glass into a hat. It had apparently been much harder to make a hat into a glass, than a glass into a hat. There had been so many mistakes, Professor McGonigal had simply replaced half of the students' glasses, rather than spend the time helping repair them.
She sat up extremely straight, grinning, and got a groan from her partner, whatever-his-name-is.
"Wands at the ready!"
Ella raised her wand, as everyone else did. Several students shied away from their partners.
"Cast the spell!"
"'Glaso trans Hattus," Ella cheerfully said, watching in awe as her glass turned into a frilly pink hat complete with ribbons and flowers. She squeed happily and hugged the boy gleefully, "It's so pretty!"
"Get off me!" he yelped, pushing her away.
Ella pouted, and they were again directed to make their hats into glasses, something Ella almost did... but it was now pink. "I like it this way, don't you, Jack?"
"Jeff." He growled for probably the fifth time that day.
"Like it matters," she muttered again.
"Class dismissed!" Professor McGonigal declared, and Jeff took off running as if he was being chased by a hippogriff.
"What's his problem?" Ella asked Gerard, and got only a shrug in return. She shook her head and began gathering her books.

Aaron peeked out from under the desk a few minutes later, checking to make sure that everyone was gone. The coast was clear! He scurried towards the door, slipping out and keeping to the shadows, trying not to be seen. Thankfully, his padded paws made from silent travel and his black fur was great camouflage - no one noticed him, let alone looked at him.
He looked around for Liam, figuring he was the best bet - but Liam didn't have the same Transfiguration Class that he did, and he'd never asked him what his schedule was, so he had no idea what class he was in. He could be on the other side of the castle, for all he knew! How would he ever find him...?
Don't worry, keep going, Aaron. We'll figure something out.
That was the first time he'd heard Liora since he became a cat. He looked around for her, but realized she wasn't being visualized at all - just a voice.
Animals aren't capable of visualizing us. It's okay, I can just be a voice for you.
...Okay.
As much as he missed seeing her, he couldn't help what was happening... he'd just have to find a way to change back.
Soon.

Ella was one of the last to leave the classroom, as that entailed gathering her things, fixing her hair, and brushing off her robes.
She flounced out into the hallway, excited that it was lunch time, which meant time to socialize.
"Oh!" She squeaked suddenly, as she'd almost stepped on a small black and white cat. She reached down and picked him up, hugging him gently to herself. "You don't look like any cat I've seen around here before... You'd be the perfect friend for Hiver!" she said to him.
"Doesn't Hiver hate cats?" Gerard asked, walking over and staring at the cat.
Ella ignored him, and gently scratched at his ears, "He reminds me of someone..." she muttered, staring at the black haired, blue eyed, striped cat. After a few moments of not figuring it out, she shrugged, "Oh well, I'm sure I'll get it later... let's go meet Hiver!"
And with that, she flounced away with a helpless cat and a very strange soul.

Before he knew what was happening, Aaron was pulled off his feet and into the air, floating hiiiiigh above the floor and held awkwardly under the arms. Then there was another hand on his rump, and he was curled into a ball against someone like a ragdoll.
He gave a mewling screech, terrified, and thrashed about as he was squeezed - but then the grip was loosened, and a hand was scratching him behind his pointed furry ears, causing him to silence, freeze, and blink confusedly.
A very familiar voice was cooing to him - a voice belonging to none other than Ella.
...He was doomed.

Ella flounced upstairs with the cat, to the Ravenclaw Common room, where several students were mingling about, talking or working on assignments. Some were reading ahead for classes it looked like, and in a corner a game of wizard chess was going on.
She walked into the girls' dorm and was greeted by a small white dog. He was probably only half the size of the cat she was holding, which she suddenly realized looked very, very thin. "Good gracious!" She yelped, "We need to feed you! I bet you've been all alone this summer, poor darling..." she rubbed behind his ears, and shut the door with her foot, plopping the cat on her bed.
"Now don't move," she said, "Or I'll have to keep you in a cage..." Then she leaned down and picking up the dog, who started lamely wimpering and whining, snapping at Ella as he tried to get away from the terribly scary cat. When his teeth sunk into her arm, she dropped him abruptly, and he fell to the floor and ran away.
She sat down on the bed and dragged the cat into her lap, and stared at her arm, which was bleeding. "Oh well," she said cheerfully, scratching the cat's ears again, "Blood builds character!"

As soon as Aaron saw Hiver, all the fur on his body stood on end. A dog! She had a little yappy dog! He really didn't think this could get any worse. His cat instincts urged him to jump out of Ella's arms and attack the dog, to teach it who's boss - but the human side of him, the said that was Aaron, would never do such a thing. So the cat stayed put.
And now Ella was whining about how skinny he was. Well, with the transition from human to cat, Aaron had kept the same weight ratio... meaning he was just as skinny as he was as a human as a cat. Which was pretty skinny.
He got plopped on to bed and sat there solemnly, watching as the nasty little dog attacked Ella. He immediately stood up and hissed, fur fluffing up and tail lashing - it was another one of those instincts. The dog was dangerous, not to be trusted.
And then Ella dragged him onto her lap, and he quickly sheathed his claws, not wanting to shed any more blood. He shied away from her bleeding arm, closing his eyes and trying to not look at it. The ear-scratching was soothing, but he still had the problem that Ella probably wasn't going to change him back very soon.

Ella pat the cat on the head, and stood up holding him again. "I know exactly what you need!" she said suddenly, and skipped over to her trunk. She stood by it for a moment, then pulled it open, and got a medium sized pink box, and plopped it on the bed again. She held the kitty with one arm and pulled the lid off.
The box was absolutely overflowing with sparkles, ribbons, bows, lace, fake flowers, and almost every other decrotive girlie thing you could think of.
Ella selected a sparkley, lacy, pink ribbon and held it up, made a face, and dropped it on the bed. She did this several times, before pulling out a shiny pink satin ribbon and gasped, "It's perfect!" She grinned at the cat, and set him on the bed, tying it around his neck so it was tight enough to not fall off, but not so tight he would suffocate.
She tied a rather large bow, twisting it to rest on the side of his neck, then stood back to admire her work. He looked so cute with a bow on! Suddenly she gasped, "Oh my god! Mr. Kittie! You look JUST like AARON!" She picked him up and hugged him, "You're adorable and friendly and fluffy and shiney and happy JUST LIKE HIM!"
...
At this point it is highly unlikely that Ella actually remembers meeting Aaron.

Aaron's jumbled thoughts resembled something like "ASKFJLGSDKGHKZGHA NOOOOOOOO" as he was forced into a pink ribbon. And then Ella decided that he looks... just like his human form!
IN A PINK BOW.
NOOOOO.
After a few minutes of hyperventilating, he squirmed out of her arms, and fell to the ground, twisting to land on all fours. After taking a second to establish he was stable, he dove between Ella's feet and skidded over to the door. He stuck a paw under, clawing at the other side of the door in a vain attempt to open it - until he heard Hiver making freakish growl-whimpers on the other side of the door, and quickly retracted his paw, fur fluffing up with alarm.
If he got out... the dog would be on the other side, waiting for him. He'd seen what those nasty little teeth could do to a human... to a cat? He didn't stand a chance...

Ella gasped, and grabbed the spray bottle she'd trained Hiver with from the bed side table, and stormed over to Mr. Kittie-Aaron. "Bad cat!" she exclaimed, spraying him with the water. "No!" she said sternly, waving a finger in his face.
She picked him back up, and walked over to her bed again, and dragged something out from under it. It was- oh no- a purse. But not just any purse, a bright pink purse designed of carying chihuahuas."This is where you'll be staying durring class, and stuff. You can sleep with me at night too... Hiver can keep watch from the floor." She grinned and shoved the cat in the bag, zipping it up.
Gerard could no longer contain himself and burst out laughing, "Oh god, that poor cat!" He gasped between fits of laughter.
Ella glared at him. "I'm sure Mr. Kittie-Aaron loves it in there!" she said, "And this way, he can't get lost!"
And with that, she put the bag on her shoulder, grapped her divination book, and went flouncing down the stairs to get to the great hall to eat something.

W-Water?
Aaron coughed, shaking it off, and ran a paw over his whiskers a few times to rid them of the remaining droplets. Why had she sprayed him? Because he was being bad? She was the one who'd put him in the bow!
And then he was in her arms again. He struggled, trying to get away from her, and she let go... allowing him to fall right into a giant pink purse. His fear of enclosed spaces immediately got his pulse to quicken by a whole lot, so much that he could hear blood pounding in his ears. He stuck his head into the purse and curled up in a ball, shaking, terror flooding his senses. He couldn't escape, he couldn't escape, he'd be a cat forever, the slave of this idiotic girl...
Aaron!
His eyes snapped open, breaking him out of his despair. He realized he'd been biting down on his foreleg - drawing blood with his sharp teeth. He tried to sit up, but Ella's flouncing made the bag shake too much for him to do so. Instead, he curled up again, eyes open this time, trying not to look at or smell the blood oozing from his arm onto the pink fabric.
Aaron, calm yourself. I told you, we'll find a way to change you back.
It's... impossible...
It's not impossible, Aaron.
A shaky exhale from Aaron, and then he closed his eyes, trying to ignore the fact he was inside a purse, being shaken around by a crazy girl. Instead, he emptied his mind of all thoughts and just listened to the frantic beating of his heart, trying to calm it so he could think clearly again.
